Russia's foreign minister gave Kim Jong Un a mysterious box to 'lock secret things' inside

  • North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday, who gave him a mysterious box as a gift.
  • "You can lock secret things here," Lavrov said while giving Kim the key. 
  • Russia has been known to engage in provocative optics in the past, especially in cases where it could tweak the US's nerves.
  • The US is definitely concerned with North Korea hiding secrets as it prepares to engage in denuclearization negotiations.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday and, amid a frenzy of diplomacy all around Korea, Russia gave Kim a mysterious gift.

A video posted by Russian media showed Lavrov and Kim walk down a hallway with Lavrov pulling his attention to a small box. It depicted a pastoral scene that appeared to depict Russian nobility riding through the woods on horseback.

Winging it

Once again, your intrepid robotics reporter finds himself in the warm embrace of the Bay. To paraphrase Mark Twain, the warmest I was ever embraced was early summer in Santa Clara. I’m writing this from a juice place in Palo Alto (living the dream), having finished a pair of back-to-back meetings nearby. This week’s big Apple event brought me out here. Upward and onward

The future is very much yet to be written about vertical farming. In many ways, the technology presents hope in the midst of rising food safety concerns, aging populations and potential environmental collapse. It’s also an intensely hard row to hoe, as it were. Early companies in the space are going to be the ones focused on driving down unit economics (hopefully) to a point where the technology makes sense from a price perspective.
