Labor Day is much more than just a three-day weekend for a lucky few; it's also a great chance to save. Before you hit the pool in a final summer hurrah, you won't want to miss these Labor Day sales on apparel, appliances, tech, and more.
The holiday doesn't officially arrive until September 2, so you have until then to check out these retailer sales. Some of my favorites include REI's huge annual Labor Day sale, Away's suitcase event, and the Rent the Runway 10-item plan discount. It's highly likely that even more retailers will join the festivities as Labor Day gets closer, and the deals will only improve. I'll keep tabs on the best of the best here, so be sure to check back often.

How long do Labor Day sales last?
Most Labor Day sales end after Labor Day. A few may continue into the first week of September, but the best deals won't last long. If you see a deal you're interested in, be sure to act on it during the long weekend.
“Jidoka” is a new one to me. TRI (Toyota Research Institute) CEO Gill Pratt described the concept as “Automation with a Human Touch.” The anglicized version of the notion is “Autonomation” — both are modified forms of “ automation,” in their respective languages. The word was originally applied to Toyota’s Production System, highlighting the need for human participation in the process. Quoting from Toyota here: Employing Jidoka principles throughout the production process is a vital element of the Toyota Production System, forcing imperfections to be immediately addressed by self-inspecting workers and thereby reducing the amount of work added to a defective product. Some automated machines can also function in the detection process, allowing human operatives to only be engaged when alerted to a problem.
